Little Cookie
Cookie was born and spent her first six months of life at our rescue. Her momma was dumped on a road near our rescue. We think her daddy is a Jack Russell that lives in the area where momma was dumped. Cookie looks just like him. HA Anyways, she, of course, living at our rescue her whole life was spoiled rotten. Quite the little rascal. Her REAL story began about a month ago... on a Saturday afternoon at Petsmart in Broken Arrow Cookie was adopted out. I normally check references very well and listen to my heart. I had 2 adoptions going at once and unfortunately let her be adopted, even though my son and daughter were both saying it just didnt feel right. I let her go only because these folks had been up there several Saturdays in a row and knew it was not just a spontaneous adoption. Usually folks who put time into looking for a dog are good choices. But, not always.... they took her home and my heart, and kids kept nagging me. I called to check on her several times. On Wednesday of that same week, I called yet again. This time the news was bad. She had run away a couple of times apparently, so they had tied her up on a stake, with a short LEASH. Left her there all night long. She chewed thru the leash...I would have too. The big kicker was...they had already replaced her. She was gone 24 hrs and had already been forgotten. But not by us. We posted signs in neighborhood and many vets, stores, etc. Few days later we got a call. It was funny. These folks did not want to call us cuz they thought we had tied her up! lol They had already decided if they didnt like the reason they were not returning her!! They were disgusted that this sweet little dog had been tied up all night long. After visiting with these wonderful folks, we decided that Cookie had literally found her new home. Alls well that ends well, right? Well, not for our adventurous little Cookie. While playing in her new backyard with her family she wondered off. They were sick with grief. However, unlike her first family her "real" family looked for her. And found her almost immediately. But, *sigh* she had been injured. Looks like horse kick. Her little leg was broke so bad she needed surgery. It was bleeding internally. She is now lying in the vet hospital, recovering, and waiting to go home and cuddle with her "girl" and watch TV. Apparently she is mesmerized by the television. lol The hosp bill was close to $600. Her family is still a couple hundred shy of full amount. We were able to help a little out of our emergency funds. But unfortunatly our funds were not enough to cover full bill. This bill has to be paid by Monday. I know Cookie does not want to stay there longer than she has too. These folks are just like you and me. Good hardworking people that want the best for their pets, cuz they are family too. But like us, they dont have a spare $600 lying around. Nor were they really expecting to have a new family member but were very pleased at the addition. If there is anyway you can help, please let us know. There is always a need, always a "Cookie" out there that needs help. We would really love to be able to write checks out every time someone calls for emergency medical for their pets. It hard when you love them so much and a vets answer to your problem is "for 30 bucks we can put it down". For most of us, this is NOT AN OPTION!! Thanks for taking time to read this. And thanks in advance for any help you can give to all the little "Cookies" out there.

Busy
Sorry to all my readers, we have been very busy this week, it's been so hot here we have to keep a very watchful eye on each of the dogs. When the Temperature reaches 90 degrees F, we stay outside most of the day with the dogs to make sure they are staying cool. Our kennel is not yet airconditioned , but hopefully with a few more donations we can install one.

Community Service Work Place
On a side note, we are on the list of businesses accepting workers from court mandated community service program of Osage County. In short, we accept certain offenders to volunteers at 7th Hope to work off their community service hours. This helps the community and helps the rescue in turn.
I just wanted to say a Thank you to the Osage county community service program!

JoJo
Just got word today that we will be receiveing JoJo, a beautiful full blood german shepard, he is approx 1.5 yrs old, and just as cute as can be. He looks a little scared now but once we get him to the ranch and work with him, I am sure he will fit in just fine.
We usually get one or two inquries about german shepards each week. I am sure that he will not be with us very long.
